The thunder of cannon fire boomed from the streets as the 2008 Veishea parade went past the College of Design down Morrill Avenue, and to the Memorial Union as another long-standing tradition held the vibrance and color that students and alumni have come to expect from the year’s biggest celebration. The march down to the Memorial Union held countless groups from both the ISU and Ames community. It was a day to be proud of, and most students would agree.
“I don’t know if you can tell, but I bleed red and gold!” said Johanna Turner, senior in political science, as she took snapshots of the parade in front of Morrill Hall.
The Wells Fargo Stage Coach, clowns and tractors were just a few of the sights parading down the route. One of the more elaborate floats was the Super Mario Bros.-themed float put on by a joint project between the Delta Delta Delta sorority and the Delta Tau Delta fraternity.
While working at the Memorial Union, Nikita Miles, building manager and sophomore in marketing, stepped out to see the Super Mario float come by the building.
“I helped make that!” she said.
The parade featured many famous ISU figures, such as distinguished alumnus and astronaut Clayton Anderson and President Gregory Geoffroy.
