Veishea's 7-o'clock hour

By Ross Boettcher

As the Campanile rang in the 7-o'clock hour Friday, Funks G took the stage to perform its final-round set for the Veishea Battle of the Bands.

As the riffs and screams of the band echoed across campus, the plot of land formerly known as the Marching Band Field slowly metamorphosed into an overly-saturated slab of sod ripe with tic-tac-toe-like tracks from the golf carts zipping around the vicinity.

To counter the effects of the rain fall seen over the past 24 hours, members of Facilities Planning and Management have hauled in loads of sand to help soak up the moisture.

The dreary weather and the setting for Battle of the Bands and the Live@Veishea concerts might elicit a hint of uncertainty from outsiders. Here's why:

At exactly 7:03 p.m. there were approximately 20 spectators attempting to take in the melodies of Funks G while 11 security guards surrounded the fenced-in perimeter of the stage's viewing area.

Along with the 11 guards on standby, 10 Frank the Flamingo signs reading "No Alcohol Allowed" and 15 fluorescent green "Veishea Wristband Required" signs peppered the fenced enclosure.
